WHATSAPP ALTERNATIVE

WhatsApp for chatting.

WhatsApp is great for talking with family and friends, here and abroad. But when you organize a crew, a team, a church or a business, the important message gets buried in a busy group, and anyone without the app misses it. SMSGO sends each person a direct text, and replies come only to you.

No app needed. A normal text reaches any phone.
Private replies. Not a group chat.
A real headcount. YES, NO and an automatic “we’re on.”
English or Spanish. Pay as you go, $0.03 per text segment.

Facts about WhatsApp come from WhatsApp’s own help center and blog, checked October 30, 2026.

QUESTIONS

WhatsApp vs SMSGO questions.

Is SMSGO a replacement for WhatsApp?

Not for chatting. WhatsApp is great for conversation, photos and free calls. SMSGO is for the messages everyone in your group must see: start times, cancellations, changes and headcounts. Many groups use both.

Do my members need WhatsApp or any app?

No. SMSGO sends a normal text message, or an email if someone prefers. It works on any phone that gets texts, including basic flip phones.

Why not just use a WhatsApp broadcast list?

WhatsApp’s help center says broadcast lists hold up to 256 contacts, and only people who saved your number in their phone get the message. With SMSGO, people don’t need to save your number, and you can send to a group of hundreds or to one crew.

Can people in my group see each other’s numbers on SMSGO?

No. Each person gets a direct text, and replies come only to you. Nobody sees anyone else’s number or reply.

Is SMSGO encrypted like WhatsApp?

No. SMSGO uses normal text messages, which are not end-to-end encrypted. WhatsApp says its personal messages are end-to-end encrypted. If every message needs that, use WhatsApp for it.

What does SMSGO cost?

Pay as you go, with no subscription: $0.03 per text segment, $0.003 per email and $0.04 per photo text. You start with $5, about 166 standard text segments, and you see the cost before every send.

Does SMSGO work in Spanish?

Yes. Set your group’s language to Español, and the Join page and the texts SMSGO sends for you, like confirmations and counts, are in Spanish. Members can reply SÍ, ESTADO or ALTO.

How do I move my group from a WhatsApp group?

Post your SMSGO Join link or QR code in the chat so people add themselves, or send us your list and we import it free. Phone numbers you add get a free text asking them to confirm with YES.
