Questions about your own number.
How much does my own number cost?
It’s $1.50 a month, paid from your SMSGO wallet. It’s charged the day it’s turned on, then on the same day each month, and shows in Billing as “Monthly number rental.” Your texts and emails cost what they always do: $0.03 per text segment and $0.003 per email.
Can I choose the area code?
Yes. Tell us the area code you want and we find an available number in it. If that area code has nothing free, we’ll suggest a nearby one.
How do I get one?
Text support from your account and tell us the area code you want. We set it up with you and let you know when it’s ready. Nothing changes for your members until then.
How do members join?
They text JOIN to your number. No group code to remember, because your number only belongs to your group.
What happens if my wallet runs low?
We email you and show a banner in your account, and we try again as soon as you add funds. If it’s still unpaid after 7 days, your number is switched off and your texts go back to SMSGO’s shared number.
Can I turn it off?
Yes, anytime. Billing stops and your texts go back to SMSGO’s shared number. The current month isn’t refunded.
Does STOP work with my own number?
Yes. A member who texts STOP to your number stops getting texts from it, and START brings them back. LEAVE and ABOUT work there too.
Do I need my own number?
No. Most groups use SMSGO’s shared number at no extra cost, and members join it by texting JOIN with your group code. Your own number is an option for groups that want a local number people can save as theirs.
